Here we are again: the Oxford Street lights are on, the fireworks have settled after Guy Fawkes Day, and the weather has turned distinctly more favorable to the ducks in Hyde Park than the humans who call London home.
The holiday shopping season is upon us, and that means it’s time to start thinking ahead – nobody likes the feeling of that last-minute gift-buying rush (except my father, who always loved shopping at the malls on Christmas Eve!). If you know someone who loves London – and especially loves London’s iconic red double-decker buses – I’ve got you covered.
Below you’ll find a list of London bus gifts that range from whimsical to heart-warming. I’ve scoured to find a good selection that will appeal to fans of London’s transport system, whether that’s because of its incredible efficiency, its historical importance, or the fact that it just adds a good dose of red to this generally red-and-green season.
Read on to discover a list of the best gifts featuring London buses and tick off one more item from your holiday to-do list.
1. Routemaster Bus & Black Taxi Set
What better place to start any list of London bus gifts than with a historically accurate model of the city’s iconic double-deckers?
This model set – which includes a Routemaster red bus and iconic black cab – comes from the London Transport Museum, and is perfect whether you want them to display on a shelf or to gift to a kiddo who loves vehicle models.
Best of all, it’s quite affordable, meaning you can use them as stocking stuffers while considering other London gifts too.
2. Churchill’s London Bus Toffee Tin
The holidays are a great time to enjoy sweets – and this historic double-decker bus tin is the perfect addition to your holiday menu.
In addition to featuring the historic buses that were well-known to Londoners during Churchill’s long Prime Ministry, it is filled with the P.M.’s favorite toffee. You can gift it or keep it for yourself – and then display the tin after the holidays have ended.
You might also notice, there’s a slit on top; this makes it a great option as a piggy bank, where you can save change and bills to pay for your next London trip.
3. London Bus Figural Mug
London bus gifts aside, I always love shopping at World Market; it’s a great place to find goodies and sweets from around the world, and my go-to spot for stocking up on Jammie Dodgers in between London trips.
They currently also offer this cute London bus mug. My favorite part is the goofy wheels that elevate the mug; it’s a cheery way to start your day, whether that’s with the traditional British choice of tea or with coffee.
This is another great stocking stuffer and a nice way to remind your gift recipient of London all year long.
4. Rubber Bus “Conducktor”
Here’s another great London bus stocking stuffer from the London Transport Museum – especially if your intended recipient already loves rubber ducks!
This red bus “con-DUCK-tor” highlights an imaginary route across the city from Baker Street to Regent Street. Seeing it will inspire memories of all the iconic sights along that route, and the happy red face will cause a smile on the face of anyone who finds this duck topping their holiday stocking.
5. Rubber London Bus Ring
Look, I get it: keychains are one of those kitschy London souvenirs that people buy when they realize they forgot to get something until the airport on the way home. But this red bus keychain makes my list because: I actually have and use this keychain at home!
It’s a perfect stocking stuffer too, because it’s small. It’s also easy to find in your purse or bag and the rubberized style makes it stick better in your and when your fingers brush over it. Basically, yes it’s a keychain – but it’s a cool one, and definitely the best one out there for fans of London buses.
6. Love London Bus Socks
The irony of giving socks as stocking stuffers is not lost on me – but what better time to receive a pair of cheery-patterned socks to keep your toes warm than during the winter holiday season?
There are lots of London socks out there, but I thought these ones were worthy of making my London bus gifts list because they’re the least cheeseball while still proudly displaying the iconic vehicle.
These bus-patterned socks also read “I ❤️ London,” a friendly reminder of the recipient’s favorite city and way of getting around.
7. Double Decker Bus Art
There are so many incredible London artists and works of art depicting London buses, it was hard to choose only one to feature on this list – I could do an entire list just of London bus art prints!
This whimsical print caught my eye though, as it’s cute enough to hang on a child’s wall but nice enough to add a bit of modern style to any adult’s living space.
It does not come framed or mounted, but is one of a limited series produced by the artist (AssemblyHouse on Etsy) so if you like this one, be sure to snag it.
8. Routemaster Diagram Shirt
No to speak too generally, but people who love vehicles also often love the engineering behind those modes of transport. Even those of us who don’t understand mechanics at all can find a well-drawn diagram aesthetically appealing.
If that sounds like the person you’re shopping for, this Routemaster diagram shirt is a great option. It features an older version of London’s iconic double-decker buses with different specs and components of the vehicle highlighted. It also comes in shades of iconic red, naturally.
9. Bus Moquette Throw Blanket
I’m not gonna lie: I buried my favorite item on this list of London bus gifts because I don’t want everyone to buy it and it going out of stock before I can!
For those not as familiar with the design of London buses, this throw blanket features the iconic “moquette” (woven pile fabric) of London’s current bus seats. It’s colorful and abstract – but also extremely specific for fans of London’s transport system and the unique designs it has featured over the years.
Best of all, it doesn’t scream LONDON! so it can add a flair to your home without overwhelming you.
10. Festive Felted London Bus
To round out my list of London bus gifts, I thought it might be nice to include a few bus ornaments from my London ornaments list. If you love felting goodies, you’ll go crazy with this cute Festive Felted London Bus.
Made from needle felting techniques, this felt pendant takes a step back from more traditional ornaments and adds a quirkier vibe to your Christmas tree. It has lovely hand-stitched detailing. The seller makes plenty of ornaments, and you can choose a few to create a set.
This creator has been hard at work and has lots of these ornaments available for Christmas 2022!
11. Double Decker Bus Glass Ornament
If your gift recipient would rather hang a more iconic version of the London bus on their tree, here’s your best bet. This red double-decker bus ornament is pure London, and comes in under the $10 price point.
I have one of these ornaments that adorns the boughs of my Christmas tree each holiday season, and can attest: it’s the perfect pop of festive red among the evergreen branches.
At the time of writing, there are fewer than 10 in stock, so be sure to grab this one if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option.
There you have it: a list of lovely London bus gifts that will be sure to bring a smile to whomever you’re shopping for. Have any questions about these items, or do you know of others I should add to this list? Let me know in the comments below!
